Berkshire County: Big Y aims to ‘Sack Hunger’

In a chain-wide effort to help the hungry within their local communities, Big Y Foods has initiated its annual "Sack Hunger" program.

Big Y customers purchase a pre-assembled bag of groceries for $10 that Big Y distributes to that region’s area food bank.

Food banks distribute those bags to area soup kitchens, food pantries, senior food programs, day care centers and many other member agencies. All of the donated sacks will be distributed within each supermarket’s marketing area so that every donation stays within the local community.

The program began on Nov. 1 and will continue through the rest of the calendar year.

In Berkshire County, Big Y operates supermarkets in Adams, Great Barrington, Lee, North Adams and Pittsfield.
