Pittsfield: GFCU donates $7,500 to YMCA

The Greylock Federal Credit Union has donated $7,500 to the Pittsfield Family YMCA, the financial institution has announced. Of that sum, $5,000 has been given to a program which allows young people holding both a YMCA Annual Youth membership and a Greylock Federal Credit Union membership to attend one YMCA program for free.

The remaining $2,500 was donated to the YMCA on behalf of the Marilyn Hamilton Literacy Program in collaboration with Masons of St. John’s Lodge No. 10.

The literacy program serves children living in Pittsfield’s Westside and Morningside neighborhoods, and will be held at Pitt Park until the end of the summer. Information: Jenna, (413) 499-7650 ext. 45. Free program tickets for eligible children are available at any Greylock branch.

Pittsfield: 1Berkshire recognizes BHS

1Berkshire, the county’s leading economic development agency, has named Berkshire Health Systems the 2014 honoree for "Putting the Berkshires on the Map."

The award recognizes the substantial contribution BHS is making to Berkshire County’s overall image. BHS is the county’s largest employer with more than 3,000 employees.

BHS will be honored at the fourth annual Celebrate the Berkshires event which takes place Tuesday, Sept. 9, at the Lyon Aviation/Epic Jet Hangar at Pittsfield Municipal Airport. BHS will be the featured honoree at this year’s Celebrate the Berkshires event, which will also showcase Berkshire individuals and businesses who demonstrate excellence in several Trendsetter Award categories.

The nonprofit’s array of businesses include Berkshire Medical Center, Fairview Hospital, the Berkshire VNA and BMC and Fairview physician practices.
