New trustee
appointed at MCLA

Lisa Chamberlain, managing partner of The Chamberlain Group in Great Barrington, has been appointed to the board of trustees of the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts by Gov. Deval Patrick, MCLA has announced.

Chamberlain replaces outgoing trustee Steve Crowe, who recently completed his term of service.

Founded in 1999, The Chamberlain Group is a Massachusetts-based studio that designs and builds mimetic organs for surgical and interventional training.

New slate of officers at Ventfort Hall

The board of directors of the Ventfort Hall Mansion and Gilded Age Museum recently elected a new slate of officers.

Lorraine Becker of Newton was elected president; Kelly Blau of Pittsfield, vice president; Holly Dobbins of Lenox, vice president; Victile Donahue of Pittsfield, clerk/treasurer; Patricia Neri of Lenox, recording secretary; and Tjasa Sprague of Lenox, founder emeritus and historian.

The board's other members are Julie Agar of Stockbridge; Joanne Sheehan-Keator of Lenox; David Librizzi of Williamstown; and Birgit Vetromile of Lenox.


Public hearing
on Fire Safety Code

The state Board of Fire Prevention Regulations will hold a public hearing on proposed revisions to the Massachusetts Comprehensive Fire Safety Code on Thursday, Aug. 7 at the Department of Fire Services in Stow.

The revised code, 527 CMR 1.00, prescribes minimum controls to safeguard life, property, and public welfare from the hazards of explosion created by the storage, handling or use of substances, materials or devices, or from conditions, or materials hazardous to life, property and the public welfare.

The proposed base code: NFPA-1 (2012) and the Massachusetts amendments to the base code are available for review.


WGBY gets grant for veterans programming

WGBY-TV (44) in Springfield has received a grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to partner with Soldier On of Pittsfield and two other state veterans organizations on a project titled, "Veterans Coming Home."

The two other organizations are the Bilingual Veterans Outreach Centers of Massachusetts, based in Springfield; and the Veterans Administration Central Western Massachusetts Healthcare System, which provides primary, specialty, and mental health care to veterans in the central and western parts of the state.

WGBY will be airing a series of reports in October as part of its regular news and public affairs program, "Connecting Point." The station will also convene its partners for a live, in-studio panel discussion and call-in show.
