Washington: Woodworkers award scholarships

The Berkshire Woodworkers Guild has awarded two $500 scholarships to area students who are preparing for careers in woodworking, construction or architecture.

This year’s recipients are Kurt Warner of Lee who is majoring in construction technology at the State University of New York in Delhi, N.Y.; and Connor Young of Sunderland who is studying at the New England School of Architectural Woodworking.

The scholarships will be presented Saturday at the guild’s annual woodworking show at the Berkshire Botanical Garden in Stockbridge. The ceremony begins at 2 p.m.

North Adams: GFCU donates $13K to events

The Greylock Federal Credit Union has donated $13,000 to sponsor several events that are taking place in North Adams during 2014.

The events are organized by the city of North Adams and encompass year-round outdoor community get-togethers.

They include Concerts at Windsor Lake on Wednesdays until Aug. 27; the North Adams Farmers Market on Saturdays until Oct. 25; the Fourth of July Fireworks display after the North Adams Steeplecats game at Noel Field; the Eagle Street Beach Party; the Downtown Celebration on Aug. 13; Motorama on Aug. 24; the Berkshire Food Festival on Sept.14; and the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in Monument Square on Nov. 26.

Pittsfield: YMCA to hold wine, beer fundraiser

The Pittsfield Family YMCA will hold a "Savor the Moment" wine and beer tasting fundraiser Friday, Aug.1.

The event will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. poolside at Berkshire Hills Country Club, 500 Benedict Road.

Proceeds benefit the Pittsfield Family YMCA’s Annual Campaign that provides financial assistance for youth memberships, child care, camps, programs and more.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at either the YMCA or at the door. Attendees must be age 21 or older.
