Sheffield: 13 students get $17.4K in grants
Several Berkshire County pupils were among the 13 students who received a total of $17,400 in grants from the Alice and Richard Henriquez Fund/Youth World Awareness Program, a fund of the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation.
The Berkshire County students include Cameron Abderhalden, Emma Merritt and Jake Parkinson of Lenox; Katelyn Campetti and Katherine Lister of West Stockbridge; Kevin Hoctor of Becket; Ava Naylor of Sheffield; Sophia Randolph of Richmond; and a group of students from the Great Barrington Waldorf High School; nine eighth-grade students from Monument Valley Middle School in Great Barrington; and the Rites of Passage and Empowerment Program for Girls, a mentoring program in Pittsfield.
The 13 students received travel grants to Asia, Africa, the Caribbean and Central and South America from the program, which supports humanitarian work in foreign countries by young people ages 14-22.
Great Barrington: SBCC to hold After Hours event
The Southern Berkshire Chamber of Commerce will hold a Business After Hours event from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 12, at the Verizon Wireless Zone, 740 Main St.
A Chamber Breakfast, "Networking Before Nine," will take place from 7:45 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 26, at Castle Street Cafe, 10 Castle St.

Pittsfield: President named at Christian Center
Pittsfield Attorney Patrick C. Gable has been elected president of the Christian Center’s board of directors for 2014, the organization has announced.
The other officers who were elected include: Robert T. Sykes, vice president; Betsy Sherman, treasurer; and Wendy Aitken, secretary. Paul Hickling, Donald Rochelo, Jason Cyler, David Burbank and Doug Malins were installed as trustees.
Founded in 1892, the Christian Center is the oldest nonprofit human-services organization in Berkshire County.
