Pittsfield: BIFF kickoff party Friday at Beacon

The Opening Night party for the ninth annual Berkshire International Fim Festival will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday at the Beacon Cinema, 57 North St.

Pre-party festivities take place at the Beacon from 5:30 to 7.

Great Barrington: Business workshop slated

Berkshire Community College’s South County Center is offering a business workshop that begins Thursday, June 5.

"Improve Your Business Writing Skills," an interactive workshop led by workplace communication consultant Christine Polk, will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on three consecutive Thursdays.

Content will focus on strategies to help participants write more efficiently, clearly and accurately, and offer guidelines and models for specific types of writing. The cost is $65.

Polk most recently taught ESOL communication training for the Kripalu Center in Stockbridge, and has also conducted training sessions for the Red Lion Inn, Canyon Ranch, Berkshire Meadow and the Massachusetts Lodging Association.

Pittsfield: BHS receives benchmark award

Berkshire Health Systems has been named a Silver LearningElite organization for 2014 by Chief Learning Officer Magazine.

Singled out for creating and implementing exemplary workforce development practices that deliver measurable business value, Berkshire Health Systems ranked 37th from a record-breaking field of more than 200 companies participating in the prestigious annual benchmarking program.

This is the second time BHS has been recognized with the honor, having achieved a LearningElite award in 2013.

The only peer-reviewed ranking and benchmarking program developed in collaboration with chief learning officers and senior workforce development practitioners, the LearningElite has become the industry’s most valuable benchmarking tool.

The 2014 LearningElite were honored on Sunday, March 30 in Dana Point, Calif.
