North Adams: MountainOne names president

Robert J. Fraser has been named president and chief operating officer of MountainOne Bank, the financial institution has announced. The bank is a wholly owned subsidiary of MountainOne Financial.

Fraser had previously served as executive vice president-chief operating officer, and as a senior lender for MountainOne.

Before joining MountainOne, Fraser was president and CEO of South Coastal Bank (now a division of MountainOne Bank), and had prior commercial lending roles with Citizens Bank and U.S. Trust in the Boston region.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, and an MBA from Northeastern University.

Fraser has been active in community service, including serving as chairman of the South Shore Chamber of Commerce. He and his wife, Mary, have four children and live in Marshfield.

Springfield: Philanthropy conference set

Women in Philanthropy of Western MA will hold its biennial conference on Thursday, March 13, at the MassMutual Center.

The conference, "Growing Philanthropy: New Visions, New Voices," will include a variety of workshops and presentations from experts in the field of nonprofit development. Registration is open to anyone.

Women in Philanthropy of Western MA is a volunteer-led membership organization enriching the nonprofit sector with monthly breakfast presentations and networking opportunities in addition to the biennial conference.


Pittsfield: Downing is Irish Person of the Year

State Sen. Benjamin B. Downing, D-Pittsfield, will be honored as the 2014 Irish Person of the Year on Thursday, March 20, at the 13th annual Robert "Bees" Prendergast St. Patrick’s Reception at the Country Club of Pittsfield.

Maurice Callahan, the president of M. Callahan Inc., will receive the 2014 Judge John A. Barry Community Service Award. The event is hosted by Hillcrest Educational Centers Inc.
