Pittsfield: Berkshire Gas parent earns award

United Illuminating of Connecticut, which owns the Berkshire Gas Co., is one of eight New England organizations that have received 2013 Energy Star Partner of the Year awards from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The EPA and the U.S. Department of Energy honor organizations that have made outstanding contributions to protecting the environment through energy efficiency.

UI was named partner of the year in Energy Efficiency Program Delivery. The company partners with the Connecticut Light and Power Co. to offer residents access to the national Home Performance with Energy Star program.

National Grid, which is based in Waltham, received an award for promoting energy efficient products, homes and buildings that help expand the reach of Energy Star.

Great Barrington: BRIDGE to mark 5th year

Multicultural BRIDGE will hold its fifth year anniversary celebration on Saturday, April 20 at Crissey Farms on Stockbridge Road. The event begins at 6 p.m.

The semi-formal event will include a variety of exciting and fun activities, while also providing attendees with the opportunity to learn more about the goals and achievements of BRIDGE as a nonprofit organization.

Sheffield: Workshop set on rural grants, loans

The Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation will host a free presentation by the United States Department of Agriculture's Rural Development division on Tuesday, April 9 at Central Station, 66 Allen St. in Pittsfield.

USDA Rural Development representatives in charge of Community and Business Programs for Massachusetts, Connecticut and New York will present information on loans, loan guarantees, grants and technical assistance available through Rural Development. A question and answer session will also take place.

Two similar sessions will take place on Thursday, April 18 at Town Hall in Salisbury, Conn., and on Thursday April 25 at the Roeliff Jansen Library in Hillsdale, N.Y.
