Pittsfield: Physician joins BMC, Hillcrest Family

Dr. Mehernosh P. Khan has joined the medical staff of Berkshire Medical Center, and the physician staff of Hillcrest Family Health, Berkshire Health Systems has announced.

He will join doctors Alesia Churyla, Robert Davenport and Christopher Trancynger in providing care to patients at Hillcrest Family Health, 631-B North St.

Khan previously served as medical director of Jade Wellness Center in Monroeville, Pa. He has also served at Forbes Regional Hospital, Golden Mile Medical Center, the Allegheny Medical Practice Network and elsewhere.

He is board certified in family practice medicine and geriatric medicine and received his medical degree from Grant Medical College, University of Bombay, India. Khan completed his residency in family practice at Monsour Medical Center, Hershey University, Pa.

Pittsfield: Berkshire VNA earns industry honors

The Berkshire Visiting Nurse Association has been named a top agency of the 2012 HomeCareElite, which is a compilation of the top performing home health agencies in the United States.

Now in its seventh year, the HomeCare Elite identifies the top 25 percent of Medicare-certified agencies and further highlights the top 100 and top 500 agencies overall. Winners are ranked by an analysis of publicly available performance measures in quality outcomes, process measure implementation, patient experience (Home Health CAHPS), quality improvement, and financial performance.

The Berkshire VNA, which is part of Berkshire Health Systems, provides comprehensive home health services throughout Berkshire County and the surrounding region.

The HomeCare Elite is the only performance recognition of its kind in the home health profession. The data used for this analysis were compiled from publicly available information.

Springfield: SBA taps regional branch manager

Oreste Varela of East Longmeadow has been selected branch manager of the U.S. Small Business Administration’s branch office in Springfield. The office serves the four counties of Western Massachusetts.

A native of Bayonne, N.J., Varela had been the USDA Forest Service’s Chief Information Office as the National Litigation and eDiscovery Program Manager since January 2012. He is also a U.S. Air Force veteran with over 27 years of experience in administrative leadership, management and strategic planning.
