In Great Barrington, Domaney's ice chests a sign that business is brisk

GREAT BARRINGTON >> A lengthy line of blue and red coolers sat along the stone wall at Domaney's Liquors and Fine Wines on Monday, drying in the sun after a busy weekend keeping beverages chilled. The display caught the eyes of more than few passersby on Main Street.

"This has been a busy summer for weddings," owner Joe Domaney said.

Things have been so busy and the ice and liquor business so brisk, Domaney said, "We just got a new ice machine to keep up."

The business can make 1,000 pounds of ice a day now, according to him. Domaney said even with four ice machines now, the demand is high enough that the shop could use another.

Domaney's has been a staple of Great Barrington since 1973. The store sits to the left of the hedged "GB" that welcomes visitors from the east to the downtown commercial district.

If you're looking for ice this weekend, act quickly. Domaney warns that it goes fast.

"All the ice is usually spoken for before Friday," he said.
