In swimming, PHS sweeps St. Joe's


PITTSFIELD -- Round one of the Pittsfield-St. Joseph's city swim rivalry goes to the Generals.

PHS swept St. Joe's on Tuesday afternoon as the Generals beat the Crusaders girls 49-44, while the PHS boys beat St. Joe's 611 2-311 2.

The boys meet started off with a rare tie. Both teams' 200 medley relay teams touched out in 2 minutes 5.03 seconds. Pittsfield took the lead in the meet by finishing third.

From there, the Generals went 1-2 in each of the next two events and never trailed.

Pittsfield's Ken Black earned an individual double win with victories in the 200 individual medley and 500 freestyle. St. Joe's Connor Lein doubled in the 50 and 100 freestyle.

The girls meet came down to the final event -- the 400 freestyle relay. Pittsfield's foursome of Nicole Belknap, Jessie Marsh, Theresa Murphy and Hannah King won the event in 4:49.5. A second PHS relay team finished second and St. Joe's took third to account for the 49-44 final.

St. Joe's Katie Nugai, who doubled in the 50 and 100 freestyle, qualified for Western Mass. with a 28.03 swim in the 50. Aileen Archambault also doubled for St. Joe's, winning the 200 and 500 freestyle.

Pittsfield's Murphy won the IM and the 100 butterfly.

Mount Anthony girls 92, Taconic Hills 78

CRARYVILLE, N.Y. -- The Mount Anthony girls' swim team knocked off previously unbeaten Taconic Hills.

Mount Anthony's Abbey Nack won both the 50 freestyle (26.50 seconds) and the 100 free (59.08). Her 100 free time set a new school record.

The Patriots' Mia Modafferi finished second in two events, but each one was a new school record. Her 200 IM time of 2:31.57 and 100 backstroke time of 1:10.75 each set new standards.
