Open mike event to aid
BCC performing arts
The Berkshire Community College Performing Arts Partbeats is hosting an open mike, "Mr. Mic," from 7 to 10 p.m. on Saturday in the BCC cafeteria.
The event is open to the public. Admission is $3 at the door and performers are granted free access.
All proceeds go toward upgrading audio equipment, instruments and scholarships for performing arts students.
"Mr. Mic" is looking for people who can perform comedy, poetry, prose, dance and dramatic readings, as well as instrumental performances. to hold ‘Hamfest’
The Northern Berkshire Amateur Radio Club will conduct its annual "Hamfest" on Sunday at the Adams Agri cultural Fairgrounds. Gates open at 8 a.m. for sellers, with the general public admitted at 9 a.m.
The event will include demonstrations of amateur radio (Ham Radio). Space will be available for Hams to buy and sell radio and electronic equipment. Equipment suppliers will be available.
Licensing exams will be offered for all classes of Amateur Radio License. The exams start at 9 a.m.
The grand prize raffle includes six pieces of Ham Radio equipment, the latest hand-held transceivers.
Admission is $5 per person. Children under 12 are free.
Annual Cruz Nite
at new location
The Cheshire Fire Depart ment will be hosting its annual Cruz Nite and fireworks show on Saturday from 4 to 10 p.m. on the grounds of Cheshire Elementary School.
In addition to a large display of custom cars, antique cars and street rods, the annual event will feature music by Berkshire County Nite-Cruzers throughout the day, David Grover at 5:45 p.m., and Shut Up and Dance at 7 p.m. There will be a professional bicycle stunt show at 4:30 p.m. as well as children’s activities and food.
Raffles and 50/50 tickets will be sold throughout the day with proceeds defraying the cost of the fireworks show, which begins at 9:30 p.m.
YMCA to host
The Pittsfield Family YMCA will host a new Co-Ed Ultimate Frisbee Tournament on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 18 and 19, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Berkshire Community College’s athletic fields behind Paterson Field House.
Participants can sign up as a team or as individuals. In dividuals will be placed on teams as needed. This tournament is for all men and women ages 18 and over.
The game will be 7 vs. 7, and there must be at least two females on the field at all times. It will be a double-elimination format, guaranteeing each team at least two games.
Cost: Individual members: $20; individual non-members: $25; team (at least four YMCA members): $185; team (non-members): $200. A $10 late fee will be added for registrations after Aug. 12. Team tournament shirts cannot be guaranteed for those who register late.
