Youth Fair books
are now available
Berkshire 4-H has an nounced that fair books for entering the Aug. 18 Berk shire Youth Fair are now available.
Youths ages 5 to 18 who would like to enter the fair can do so using the fair book. Entries in the fair must be received no later than Aug. 10.
Entrants do not have to be members of 4-H.
Entries must be created by the youth and can include photos, art work, flowers, baked goods, animals and more. An Educational Club Exhibit allows youth groups to enter as a group.
Fair books are available by calling the 4-H office at (413) 448-8285 to find a nearby location with books, or visit www.mass4h.org, click on "news & events" and go to 4-H Fairs to find the Berkshire 4-H premium book.
The Pittsfield Family YMCA announces new Y-Nastics offerings.
The Back Handspring Clinic for boys and girls in grades 3 to 5 and grades 6 to 12 will be held Aug. 13, 15, 17 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Drills will focus on form and technique. Members, $75; non-members, $100.
The Cheerleading Mini-Clinic for boys and girls in grades 1 to 5 and grades 6 to 12 meets Aug. 14 and 16 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Classes focus on teaching and fine tuning motions, stunting, tumbling, choreographing and cheers. Members, $50; non-members, $75.
The Gymnastics Sleepover for boys and girls in grades 3 to 8 will begin at 7 p.m. on Aug. 17 and end at 8 a.m. on Aug. 18. It includes open gym time on all apparatus, pizza, ice cream, team games, and more. Members: $30; non-members, $45.
The Skills & Drills: Open Gym for boys and girls in grades 3 to 12 will be held Aug. 18 from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Each athlete will work on skills of their choosing with instructors to help guide them. Members, $5; non-members, $10.

Haskins Center hosts
’messy art’ program
The Family Resource Center will present the free event, "Messy Art Time," for families with young children from 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursday in the Haskins Center playground.
Children will have a chance to paint and create with many choices of hands-on art projects such as spin art, painting big boxes, playing with colored spaghetti, making 3-D fish, and more. Children should wear clothes for messy play. Rain cancels the event.
New Lebanon, N.Y.:
Library to host
New Lebanon Library at 550 State Route 20 will conduct a community butterfly release at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday.
The release ceremony will include butterfly education, which will be conducted by Lindsay Kuhn of Smoke Ridge Organic Farm in Bloomfield.
Participants will learn to identify host and nectar plants, what Monarch eggs, larvae, and pupal forms look like, how to tell a male from female butterfly, and why males have pheromone pouches on their wings.
Kuhn will have a variety of butterflies on hand which will be released at the end of the program.
