Event to benefit
cancer victim

A benefit for Bob LaBrode, who is battling cancer, will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. on Saturday at the GEAA on Crane Avenue.

The event will feature a buffet, a disc jockey, a raffle and a Chinese raffle.

The donation is $10. Funds raised will help offset LaBrode’s medical expenses.

The Christian Center
to explore gardens

The Christian Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday for its Third Saturday Lunch Program and Positive Projects for Kids.

The project is from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by an outdoor barbecue hosted by The Civitan Club of Pittsfield at noon.

This month’s project for kids of all ages celebrates the community gardens that are providing healthy, locally-grown vegetables to local food pantries and kitchens.

Kids should meet at The Christian Center at 10 a.m. Their families are welcome. There will be a chaperoned walk to explore the nearby neighborhood garden and a garden project.

Lee Sportsmen host
murder mystery dinner

"Gangsters in Love!" a murder mystery dinner event, will be presented by BrickRoad Productions on Saturday, July 28, at the Lee Sportsmen’s Association. The evening begins with cocktails at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and the show at 6:45 p.m.

The evening will include a three-course seafood catered meal and a cash bar along with a tangled web of clues and many chances to show off sleuthing skills.

The cost is $40 per person; only 100 tickets are available.

Art event to benefit
Berkshire Carousel

The Berkshire Carousel and author Kevin O’Hara will pay homage to Missie the donkey during an off the wall art sale from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at Jae’s Asian Bistro, 55 Pittsfield-Lenox Road.

The sale will feature the works of New York carousel artist Bernard J. Illions.

Highlights of the event include a painting of Missie as she will appear on the carousel; a chance to chat with O’Hara, author of "Last of the Donkey Pilgrims" and "A Lucky Irish Lad;" and Asian food, beverage tasting, summer jazz and Irish music.

The event benefits Berkshire Carousel. The cost is $40. Make checks payable to Berkshire Carousel.

Real estate taxes
are due Aug. 1

Real estate and personal property tax bills for the first and second quarter of fiscal 2013 were mailed June 29.

The first quarter is due on or before Aug. 1 and the second quarter is due on or before Nov. 1. Postmark is not acceptable. The bill includes coupons for both the first and second quarters.

Those who have not received their bill or have misplaced it should call (413) 637-5500, ext. 5, and a duplicate bill will be mailed.
