Big Y to collect flags for retirement
In honor of Flag Day, Big Y is collecting worn, torn, faded or badly soiled Amer ican Flags for proper retirement. Big Y is working with local Boy Scouts, American Legions, VFWs and military organizations.
From May 24 to June 6, all Big Y locations will have special receptacles for accepting the worn flags.
The collecting organizations listed above will hold a special flag retirement ceremony that conforms to the U.S. Flag Code.
Landscape design subject of talk
Master gardener Carol Maynard, who has designed gardens for Springside House, will present "Basics of Landscape Design" at 6:30 tonight at Epoch Assisted Living, 140 Melbourne Road.
Maynard is a member of the Western Massachusetts Master Gardener Asso ciation, whose members present on a variety of gardening topics. This event is free and open to the public.

Neighborhood Watch meeting Wednesday
The Morningside Initiative's Neighborhood Development Committee invites residents and community members to continue the discussion on making the Morningside community stronger and safer.
Starting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Morningside Community School, community members will discuss steps they can take to build a safer neighborhood including strengthening the Neigh borhood Watch efforts.
The group will also discuss this year's Morningside Pride Night, which will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 7, at Morningside School.

Photographers hold monthly meeting
Show Up Show Off, a monthly meeting of photographers from Berkshire County, will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at YBar, 391 North St.
Both professional and amateur photographers are invited to attend. The meeting is free.
This month's presenter is Mary Garnish presenting photos from her travels to China.

School assembly to honor veterans
New Lebanon Junior/Senior High School will host its second annual Memorial Day Assembly at 9 a.m. on Wednesday in the high school gymnasium. Cong ress man Chris Gibson will be the featured speaker.
All veterans and current members of any branch of the military are invited to join the American Legion Post 1236 of New Lebanon and the Berkshire Chapter 65 Vietnam Veterans of America as honored guests.
