Investigation continues into slaying of North Adams man in NYC

The investigation continues into the killing of a North Adams man found shot to death on the roof of a Bronx, N.Y. housing project, according to police, who said no arrests have been made in the case.

The homicide probe of Joshua Bressette is ongoing and "appears to be narcotics related," according to a spokesman for the New York Police Department. The department is not investigating the case as a kidnapping.

Bressette, 25, of Chesbro Avenue, was found dead shortly after 10 p.m. May 8 on the roof of the Gun Hill Houses at 711 Magenta St. in the Bronx. He had bullet wounds to his head and back and was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police said he had heroin on him at the time, The New York Daily News reported. His body was positively identified May 15.

Bressette was last seen between 3 and 4 p.m. May 5. in the parking lot of the Price Chopper on State Road in North Adams. North Adams Police issued a missing persons notice in the case on May 8, noting that Bressette could be in danger.

Bressette was one of five North Adams residents arrested in February as part of two simultaneous car stops that police said netted more than 250 bags of heroin. He had been free on personal recognizance at the time of his disappearance.

In Bressette's obituary, his family suggested that memorial donations be made to the Joshua Bressette Witness and Victim Protection Fund.

A call to Berkshire District Attorney David F. Capeless, was not immediately returned on Friday.

The Berkshire County Law Enforcement Task Force is assisting the NYPD in the investigation, according to an earlier statement by the Berkshire District Attorney's Office.
