Jazz and opera will meet at Oldcastle

BENNINGTON -- Soprano Ida Faiella will perform in "I Love a Piano," the final winter concert of L'Ensemble at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 22, at Oldcastle Theatre, 331 Main St.

L'Ensemble, the more-than-30-year-old chamber music organization, has performed in such prestigious venues as Lincoln Center and Tanglewood and expanded their understanding of chamber music to include not only classics but jazz and music from the Broadway stage.

"I Love a Piano," written by Irving Berlin, will fill an evening with music from the great American Songbook.

Faiella has performed traditional concert and popular music and jazz from an early age. Her childhood singing idols were Maria Callas and Billie Holiday. As a young singer she performed with big bands including that of Larry Elgart until she confessed she was not yet 21. As an opera major at Hartt College of Music she worked in well known jazz clubs with bassist Ron McClure (much to the dismay of her voice teachers). She has performed in concert halls from New York to Paris and Moscow.

Cellist Jesse Levy, violinist Dale Stuckenbruck, violist Olivia Koppelland violinist Ashley Horne will perform. For more information, call (802) 447-0564.
