Kelsey Marzotto sets Monument Mountain girls discus record

CHESHIRE -- Kelsey Marzotto broke a Monument Mountain school record that had stood for 13 years in a 108-33 win at Hoosac Valley.

The Spartans earned a sweep when the boys topped the Hurricanes, 106-35.

Marzotto threw 105 feet, 3 inches in the discus, breaking a mark (104-0) set by Maya Morrill in 2000.

Kayla Garabedian picked up a pair of individual wins for Hoosac, taking the 100-meter hurdles and the 400 hurdles. The Hurricanes also got wins from Meg Rodowicz in the 800, Cara Cote in the 400 and Kalyn Alibozek in the mile.

Monument took the top three spots in all of the field events. Ruthie Lee won the long jump and triple jump for the Spartans.

On the boys side, the Spartans took the top spot in all but one individual event. Connor Storti won the 100, 200, long jump and triple jump for Monument.

Travis Ciempa salvaged the only individual win on the track for the Hurricanes, in the 3,200. David Bailot won the shot put.

Detailed track and field results will run in Thursday's Eagle.
