LEE — The 50th annual Laliberte Toy Fund opens this year with donations totaling $980. This year's goal is $8,400. Initial gifts include $250 from Greylock Federal Credit Union, $125 from South Lee Fire Company, and $75 from Roche Electric.

The fund, named for the late Ed Laliberte, a longtime Lee police officer, serves children in Lee, Lenox Dale and Tyringham.

Laliberte began the toy fund in 1958; it was renamed in his honor following his death in the early 1980s.

Donations to the Laliberte Toy Fund can be mailed to P.O. Box 21, South Lee, MA 01260, or dropped off at the Lee Emergency Dispatch Center in the basement of Town Hall. Donations will be accepted through Jan. 1.
