Lanesborough 12U Cal Ripken team set to host Western Mass. State Tournament


The Lanesborough 12-U Cal Ripken baseball team will be hosting the Western Massachusetts State Tournament beginning today at Bill Laston Memorial Park in Lanesborough.

The six-team tournament kicks off with a pair of games tonight, and both local teams will be playing. Host Lanesborough will take on Westminster at 5:30 p.m. on Field 1, while South Berkshire will play Narragansett at 5:30 p.m. on Field 3.

The Lanesborough/Westminster winner advances to play Greenfield on Saturday morning at 9 a.m., while the South Berkshire/Narragansett winner will play Turners Falls on Saturday, also at 9 a.m.

Elimination-bracket games will begin on Saturday night at 5:30 p.m., and the tournament continues through at least July 5. The first championship game will be on the fifth at 5:30 p.m. The 'if' championship game will be on July 6 at 5:30 p.m.

In addition to the morning and afternoon games on Saturday, there will also be a skills competition at 1 p.m. for the ballplayers.
