Lanesborough: Ridge Runners Ramble Hike slated Thursday at Mount Greylock

Mount Greylock State Reservation announces a special Ridge Runners Ramble hike and phenology talk for ages 18 and up. The free program will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, June 26, and is co-sponsored by the Department of Conservation and Recreation and the Appalachian Mountain Club.

A talk on phenology, observations of seasonal changes in the environment, will be followed by an energetic hike on a rugged section of the Appalachian Trail. Participants will have an opportunity to observe signs of biological changes in bird migration patterns, flowering cycles of plants, healthy forests, and other seasonal natural phenomena.

The hike will cover a 2-mile segment of the Appalachian Trail and return via park trails for a strenuous 6-mile loop, offering an ideal opportunity for seasoned hikers. Be prepared for weather, wear sturdy footwear, bring a lunch, bug spray, sunscreen and drinking water.

Participants will meet at the Visitor Center, 30 Rockwell Road, and carpool to the location. Rain cancels.
