Lee girls tennis makes Western Mass.


WILLIAMSTOWN -- Julie LePrevost and Isley Gagnon's 6-4, 6-4 win at first doubles clinched a 3-2 victory for the Lee girls tennis team, earning the Wildcats a spot in the Western Mass. tournament. Greylock is already in the tournament at 7-4.

"At 5-4, Lee had a great service game and played well," said Greylock coach John Jacobbe. "Both played well to close it out. Both teams know if we happen to see each other again it's going to be a dogfight."

Greylock's Margot Besnard beat Caitlyn Briggs at first singles when Briggs was knocked out by injury in the third set. Mariza Sfakianaki and Charlotte Rand picked up the Mounties' other win at second doubles. Emma Forget and Eileen Dooley had singles wins for Lee.

Monument girls 4, Everett 1

GREAT BARRINGTON -- Monument cruised to the victory, only dropping the third singles match where Everett's Maya Neski beat Molly Amsted in straight sets. Courtney Freadman and Shea Caligari lost a combined one game between them in wins at first and second singles.


Singles -- 1. Courtney Freadman (M) def. Ashlee Shaw, 6-0, 6-0; 2. Shea Caligari (M) def. Victoria Aldam, 6-0, 6-1; 3. Maya Neski (E) def. Molly Amsted, 6-1, 7-6 (4).

Doubles -- 1. Emily Martin/Aidan Holliday (M) def. Catherine Twing/Carwa Alden, 6-1, 6-0; 2. Carly Shafiroff/Ashley Glass (M) def. Erica Sullivan/Julia Groeber, 6-0, 6-0.

Lenox girls 4, Taconic 1

LENOX -- All three singles matches either featured a tiebreak or a third set at the Lenox Community Center.

Lenox won two of those three matches with wins by Kelly Babich and Rachel Cogswell. Angela O'Neil had Taconic's lone win at third singles, recovering from a 6-3 first-set loss to win in three.

Greylock boys 5, Lee 0

WILLIAMSTOWN -- Gray Kaegi picked up a second straight singles victory for the Mounties, beating Joe Winston in the third slot.

Rohan Shastri and Jonah Majumder added singles wins in the sweep.

"[Kaegi] had a little tough one. Both sets he was down games and he came back with straight wins," said Mounties coach Stephen Bryant. "It's great. He definitely doesn't give me any stress because I know he can step up and take over."

Monument boys 5, Everett 0

GREAT BARRINGTON -- The Spartans earned the sweep, with Kevin Li, Cam Powell and Sam Plishtin all earning singles wins.

Andrew Rada and Curt Rathbun recovered from a first-set loss at first doubles to beat Andrew Krom and Jake Smerechniak 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
