Lee man killed when car crashes into tree

LEE — A Lee man was killed early Thursday after crashing his car into a tree on Fairview Street, according to police.

Around 2:30 a.m., police and firefighters responded to 430 Fairview St., near Via Maria, where the emergency personnel found the driver pinned in the wreckage of a 2010 Hyundai Genesis, according to police.

Firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to extricate the man from the car. He was taken by Lee Ambulance Service to Berkshire Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

His name has not been released pending notification of family members, according to Lee Police Chief Jeff Roosa, who said speed was a factor in the crash.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Lee Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit.
