Lee water main breaks

LEE — Dirty dishes and laundry had to wait Tuesday evening as a water main break disrupted service to hundreds of homes on the town's west side.

Around 6 p.m., town officials were notified of water bubbling up through the pavement at the intersection of Summer and Prospect streets just off Route 20. Local contractor L B Corp of Lee was called to cut away a section of the macadam to reach the burst pipe about six feet below the surface. A member of the Lee Water Department closed off several shut-off valves in the area to isolate the break so repairs could began.

The contractor was expected to work through the late night to seal up the pipe and return water service to the affected area. Town officials had no timetable for the completed repairs.

The Lee Police Department sent out a pre-recorded phone message to residents and businesses notifying them of the water main break.
