Lenox baseball earns 14-inning win in delayed game

DALTON -- Lenox finally finished its extra-inning game with Wahconah, scoring on an error in the 14th inning to get a 10-9 win on Monday.

The game was started last Monday, but was called due to darkness in the 13th with the game tied at 9.

Dillon Benham's three-run home run in the fourth inning last week gave Lenox a 9-0 lead, but the Millionaires went scoreless for the next nine innings, allowing Wahconah to come back and tie the game.

Benham pitched 11 relief innings, striking out 12 and scattering three hits.

"Can't say I've had a game where a pitcher has gone that long," Lenox coach Kevin Downer said. "Dillon was stellar. He overpowered them with his fastball."

In the 14th, Benham scored from third after a fielding error. He led Lenox with three hits and four RBI, while Mike Downer added two hits and two RBI.
