Lenox baseball tops Hoosac Valley to wrap up regular season
LENOX — The Lenox and Hoosac Valley baseball teams finally got their game in after multiple delays due to scheduling and weather, and it was the Millionaires that walked away with a 5-3 win.
In regular season finales for both sides, Patrick Colvin tossed a complete game to earn the win. He struck out two on seven hits with one walk.
The Millionaires battled out of an early hole after giving up a pair of runs in the top of the first. Lenox re-took the lead for good with a four-run third inning.
"This team is starting to hit the ball and starting to believe in themselves," Lenox coach Kevin Downer said. "They're not giving up on themselves when they are down."
Noah Matrigali took the loss, going 5 1/3 innings and striking out four on four hits with four walks and two hit batters.
At the plate, Conner Hanson drove in two runs and went 1 for 3 at the plate. Mike Downer went 1 for 1 with an RBI for Lenox, and Mike Hurley and Jack Ellrodt added RBIs, as well.
For Hoosac, Matt Koperniak hit a double that drove in a run, and Matrigali had an RBI single.
The win means Lenox finished second in the Berkshire South. The Millionaires are now 14-6 overall and 8-2 in the league. Hoosac falls to 12-8 and 7-3.
Both teams will find out their postseason seeds tomorrow when the MIAA hosts the Western Mass. baseball and softball seeding meetings at Northampton High School. The seeding meeting is set to being at 5:30 p.m. for the baseball teams.
