Lenox choir seeks singers
LENOX -- The Cantilena Chamber Choir has announced a call for singers for its 2012-13 season.
The a cappella choir comprises 24 singers who possess vocal training, good sight-reading skills, and considerable choral experience.
Rehearsals will be held in at Trinity Church, 88 Walker St., Wednesday evenings from 7 to 9:30, beginning Sept. 5.
Singers are invited to sit in on the first rehearsal before committing to an audition, but must call or email to reserve a space.
The season will include four programs at Trinity Church and other locations.
Opening the season on Oct. 7, the choir will present an afternoon of music of the Gilded Age at Trinity Church with the premiere of Caryn Block's opera "Ethan Frome" based on Edith's Wharton's novel.
On Dec. 2, the choir will present a Christmas program of English Choral Music called "What Sweeter Music."
The highlight of the spring season will be a performance of the Monteverdi 1610 Vespers for chorus and orchestra.
Leading the group is Andrea Goodman, the director of the Saratoga Choral Festival and the Northern Berkshire Chorale. She has directed the New England Conservatory Women's Choir, the Concord (Mass.) Chorus, the Berkshire Bach Society, Skidmore Choruses, the NYU Choral Arts Society.
All accepted members will receive full scholarship, but must purchase their own music.
