The Cantilena Chamber Choir, conducted by Andrea Goodman, will premiere scenes from "Ethan Frome," a new three act opera by composer Caryn Block, at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7, at Trinity Church, 88 Walker St.

The music will include select choral scenes drawn from the three act opera and dramatic arias, duets and trios for the principal characters in Wharton’s tragic love story based in the Berkshire region.

Also on the program will be performances of Gilded Age music by Edward MacDowell, Stephen Foster and more, to be sung in combination with original Gilded Age recordings on Edison and Victrola phonograph records.

There will be a lecture/demonstration on the opera at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6, presented by The Mount, Edith Wharton Estate & Gardens, at 2 Plunkett St.

The events are part of Berkshire Coaching Weekend taking place Oct. 6, 7, and 8. For information, visit www.berkshirecoachingweekend.com.
