Lenox girls repeat as Western Mass. Division III soccer champions

WESTFIELD -- For the second consecutive season, the Lenox High School girls soccer team is a Western Massachusetts champion.

The Millionaires defeated Gateway 2-0 at Westfield State University on Monday in the Western Mass. Division III final. Josie Marshall and Alessandra Arace were the goal scorers for Lenox, which was the top seed in the Division III bracket. Marshall added an assist on Arace's second-half goal.

"I mean, I can't even explain it," Marshall said at game's end. "We worked our whole season and I've never seen a team improve so much together."

Allie Connell assisted Marshall's first-half goal, which came off a corner kick.

Lenox will play Sutton in a state semifinal Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Westfield State. Sutton beat Bromfield 1-0 in Sunday's Central Mass. D-III championship game.
