Lenox High golf team grabs berth at state Div. III meet

Monday October 22, 2012

WESTFIELD -- The Lenox golf team will be returning to the MIAA state Division III championship for the second consecutive year, only not as champion.

Kris Vahle shot a team-best 79 but the Millionaires were unable to get the better of host St. Mary's of Westfield in the Western Mass. tournament at the Tekoa Country Club on Monday. St. Mary's Noah Parker shot a 73 and was one of three Saints who shot under 85 to score a 319-326 win over Lenox. Franklin Tech just missed out, shooting a 327.

"It was just our balance," said Lenox coach Dick Salinetti. "We had four scores around 80. Franklin Tech had 72 and 78, but they didn't have the balance we did. All in all, we're really happy. We're glad to be going to states."

Cory Booska of Franklin Tech was the medalist, shooting a 1-over-par 72.

Lee finished fifth with a 345 total. Jared Fadding's 81 was the top score for the Wildcats.

Devin Farnum of Mount Everett competed as an individual and finished with an 80.
