Lenox police seek suspect in report of lewd behavior

Wednesday June 6, 2012

LENOX -- Police are seeking a suspect following an incident involving indecent exposure in a quiet residential neighborhood.

A parent called Officer John Willey last Friday afternoon around 5:30 to report that her 16-year-old daughter and a 15-year-old friend were jogging in the Birchwood Lane area when a vehicle twice slowly passed them, Police Chief Stephen O'Brien said.

The second time the car passed the joggers, they reported seeing the male driver exposing himself in a lewd manner, according to the police report.

The vehicle, described as a dark purple or blue small SUV with Massachusetts plates, was being driven by a heavy-set man in his 30s with short, blondish hair and small circular glasses, O'Brien stated.

Police canvassed the area and have assembled additional descriptions of the vehicle, but there are no leads yet, he added. "It's an open case and we're following up on some potential suspects," said O'Brien.

Anyone with further information is being urged to call Lenox Police at (413) 637-2346. "We need some good information on this and somebody must have seen something up there," the chief added.

Birchwood Lane, a dead-end, is off East Dugway Road and "is in a very active neighborhood with a lot of short streets," O'Brien noted.

Pittsfield Police had reported a similar incident, with a comparable description of the vehicle and suspect, in late April, and the two departments have been sharing information, the chief said, although there's no confirmation that the two cases are related. Other Berkshire police departments also have been notified.
