Lenox: Reception to honor ‘Unsung Heroes’


The Berkshire Citizen’s Advisory Board of the Department of Developmental Services has named Rick Backer of Pittsfield as the recipient of the annual William Johnson Memorial "Unsung Hero" Award.

Award recipients will be honored for their efforts impacting the quality of life of individuals with disabilities at a reception on Friday, March 28, at the Lenox Community Center.

A retired special education teacher, Backer devoted over 25 years helping individuals develop the necessary skills for a successful adult future.

Martha Beliveau of Adams will receive the Leslie Rudolph "Reach for the Stars" Award for her support of children with disabilities through her work with Hoosac Valley Middle and High School.

Also being honored are Theresa Jones of Cheshire, Kathy Crisp and Robert Scutt of Adams and Diane Warner of Great Barrington.
