Lenox's Meisberger second in 300-meter hurdles at New England's


NEW BRITAIN, CONN. >> Lenox's Shannon Meisberger finished in second place in the 300-meter hurdles at the New England track and field meet held at Veterans' Stadium.

Out of the 36 girls entered into the event, Meisberger (44.85) only finished behind winner Corinne Kennedy of Lebanon, N.H. Kennedy, who won the race in 2015 with a time of 43.04, won it again this year in 44.11.

Meisberger entered as the race as the No. 8 seed and a seed time of 45.08. She was only one of two runners to break the 45-second mark on Saturday.

The junior qualified for New England's with a second-place finish in the 400 hurdles during last week's All-State meet at Westfield State University.

Wahconah's Matt Lighten was the only other Berkshire County athlete to qualify for New England's after a sixth-place finish in the 100-meter dash at All-States.

Lighten finished in 17th place at the New England meet with a time of 11.46. The sophomore entered the race as the No. 16 seed and did not qualify for the finals, which only went to runners with the nine-fastest preliminary times.

Mark Doyley of Weaver won the 100 finals with a time of 10.82.
