Letter: A parade to celebrate a victory for democracy
If Trump wants a military parade, let's have a military parade to commemorate Appomattox.
Appomattox, in 1865, was a decisive Union victory triggering the surrender of the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia to the Federal Army of the Potomac. It is a reminder that our nation did survive a civil war and that the nation survived and continues to survive without slavery.
It is also a reminder that a nation divided will not stand. Let us support our democracy.
