Letter: Abortion is an American atrocity
To the editor of THE EAGLE:
In response to the April 2 letter entitled "We are richer because of Roe v. Wade" -- America is better off for whom? Is it better off for the 55 million babies who have had forceps plunged into the skulls and their brains sucked out? Gruesome, isn’t it? But reality sometimes is.
Speak to any police officer or soldier who has had to extinguish a life in the line of duty and they will tell you how that little ember becomes a raging fire inside them as time passes. Sometimes, unfortunately, this causes them to take their own lives as the tragedy has consumed their life over time.
If abortion were legal and convenient, sadly as it has become today, I would not be here, as my grandmother was adopted. Her paternal mother had followed through on her pregnancy and given her up for adoption. I choose not to play God and decide who has the right to live and die.
It was said that Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, believed only people she and her peers viewed as worthy should be allowed to live. In the 1800s it was accepted that the killing of Indians was justified because they were savages. In the latter half of the 1800s and the early 1900s it was blacks who were thought to be extinguishable. This was followed by the killing of millions of Jews because they were thought to be inferior. There is no doubt in my mind that we will someday look back and ask ourselves how we could have let this atrocity occur.
While my aunt lay dying she told me that she had two abortions and never had a day gone by that she hadn’t thought about the two children she had aborted. The embers had lay dormant only to become that raging fire inside her. Isn’t it ironic that the people who champion abortion are the ones who have been born?
