Letter: Artist, museum pursue life truths

Posted

To the editor of THE EAGLE:

Whatever one thinks of Deborah Solomon's interpretations of Norman Rockwell's art, the Norman Rockwell Museum deserves credit for its commitment to advancing the inquiry into life truths that Mr. Rockwell himself launched. The museum's open archive policy and its support for Rockwell scholarship make a meaningful contribution to our ongoing efforts to understand each other, ourselves, and our culture.

Artists create for their own satisfaction and reward, but also to comment, to be seen and considered. Complex artists know that their work may create complex responses. Feckless work disappears. That which holds true takes on a life of its own, which enriches us all.
