Letter: Back Lenox affordable housing plan

To the editor of THE EAGLE:

On behalf of the people of Trinity Episcopal Church in Lenox, I write to support the proposed affordable housing project planned for the corner of Rte. 7 and Housatonic Street in Lenox.

Sawmill Brook, as the project is known, will serve many who are now unable to afford to live in Lenox, including teachers, town employees, volunteer firemen and the many employees who help run our local businesses. For us at Trinity, support for affordable housing is part of our mission to affirm every person’s dignity. The warrant article at the special town meeting Tuesday will authorize the continuation of this project, and we urge all citizens to support an affirmative vote on Tuesday.

We believe this is the right kind of housing for Lenox, and Trinity supports the project unreservedly. Trinity has supported this initiative since its inception many years ago. The likelihood now of private and state funding encourages us all, and we believe it is in the best interest of Lenox.

The writer is rector, Trinity Episcopal Church.
