Letter: Board did poorly by library and Hawkes

Board did poorly by library and Hawkes

To the editor:

I have been a regular library patron since moving to Lenox in 1964. Sharon Hawkes is the best librarian I have observed in more than 50 years.

More than any other librarian, Sharon has made the library accessible to all the residents of Lenox and Berkshire County. She has made is a pleasure to use the library. She has increased library participation for people of all ages with family events, lectures, games, computers, and movies.

So I was dismayed to learn that the board let her go. Although Clarence Fanto's Eagle article states that she wasn't fired, she still leaves with a black cloud over her head. It seems so unfair to someone who has demonstrated unusual competence.
