Letter: BSC stage manager deserves Emmy
To the editor:
Last Friday evening my wife and I attended Barrington Stage Company's production of American Son. It was everything people have been saying it was; One of the most important, most powerful, relevant and dramatic productions this theater company has ever done. And the acting was magnificient!
And thinking about it over the weekend reminded me of a letter I've been meaning to write that is long overdue. While in high school (many years ago) I was involved in our High School's Drama Club. While my twin played the lead in our plays I worked behind the scenes as the stage manager. That year at our schools awards night, to everyone's surprise the Drama Clubs Award went not to the leading man or any of the actors or actresses but to the stage manager (yes me)! It was a reminder to everyone of how important the people who work behind the scenes are.
Rene Lutz is one of those people. I met her in Sheffield years ago when BSC was in it's infancy and Rene was then and still is the stage manager for almost every play this incredible company has produced and continues to produce.
Rene is, I believe, one of the reasons BSC is as successful as it is and what makes this theater company such a gift to our community. She is incredibly skillful and gifted and my choice to receive an Emmy for her dedication and commitment to the Theater and to BSC.
