Letter: Buddy Pellerin was a great coach, person

Buddy Pellerin was a great coach, person

To the editor:

I would be remiss if I didn't express my deep shock over the loss of Coach Buddy Pellerin. He touched the hearts of so many and molded an army of coaches and student-athletes with his spirit, energy, selflessness, encouragement, humbleness and hard work. He will live forever through the hearts he has touched.

Countless athletes were so proud to call him "coach" and to be a student of his in the game of life, which he taught like no other. His coaching skills on the field or off were exemplary. He knew how to motivate and get you to excel better than anyone I ever met.

The success of Pittsfield baseball and softball teams is a tribute to him and him alone. I barely know any coach around who hasn't been influenced by him, including myself.

Over the years, any meeting you had with him was filled with him asking about you and remembering incidents you shared with him, never about his own great accomplishments. A more humble man I have never met.

I thank the Lord for putting Coach Buddy into my life as a 13-year-old boy over 50 years ago and continuing throughout my life as a friend, a mentor and a coach. God bless you, Buddy. You will be sorely missed by so many.

Pat Bassi, Pittsfield Pat Bassi coaches Pittsfield Post 68.
