Letter: Check for pharmacy medication charges
To the Editor of THE EAGLE:
I’d like to inform all of your readers to carefully check your pharmacy charges for medications. My recent experience at a branch of a national chain was a disaster!
My wife and I are senior citizens and are fortunate enough to have Xpress Scripts, a drug plan which supplements Medicare and also fills prescriptions. A few weeks ago I decided to renew one of my medications at our pharmacy rather than go through Xpress Scripts and I was shocked to find that the local price was considerably higher than what Xpress Scripts charged. I did not accept the store’s medication.
My wife has been taking two medications for several years and we have experienced a minimum cost increase on each 3 month renewal. I was shocked to discover that last month’s pickup was more than doubled in 3 months. The pharmacy clerk told me that the drugs had been submitted to Xpress Scripts and that price was correct. I spoke to the store manager and explained the situation -- no satisfaction. I then called Xpress Scripts to check and was told that the pharmacy had never called!!
I then had my doctor send a duplicate order to an independent pharmacy where the cost was $12 instead of $36.75.
