Letter: Find balance at BMC

To the editor:

I was recently a patient at Berkshire Medical Center for one month. The care and attention I received was excellent. In the course of my stay at BMC, I was able to observe the staff and its professionalism and high quality of service in spite of the ongoing contract negotiations.

BMC is a vital community resource and its shareholders are the people of our community. Like school teachers and school nurses, the work that the hospital nurses do is indispensable to the welfare of the public.

I call on the Board of Trustees to lead the administration to an appreciation of what is done on a daily basis by the dedicated staff at BMC. It is hoped that negotiations will find a balance between the fiscal needs of BMC and the needs of the staff to ensure a continuation of the high quality of service that the staff provides our community.

David Lowry,
