Letter: Hateful 'Christian' screed only hurts nation
Hateful screed mixes religion with politics
To the editor:
In a survey/fund-raising appeal from "The Faith and Freedom Coalition" headed by Ralph Reed, conservative Christians are urged to vote against the forces of darkness, i.e. Democrats and non-believers. The mailing uses terms like "anti-Christian" and "anti-family" and phrases like "destroying our great country" to smear Reed's opponents.
Such language, in my opinion, is unworthy of persons calling themselves "Christian" and it seems to me that an exhortation like this exemplifies what is happening to our Republic as it mixes religion and politics too closely.
I cannot reconcile this inflammatory, hate-filled screed with Christianity as I have always understood it. Neither our politics nor our country need this.
