Letter: Hold congressmen to town standards
To the editor of THE EAGLE:
I find this very odd. When I served (voluntarily) on the town Historical Commission and the Zoning Board of Appeals, I was instructed that state law prohibited me from accepting "anything of value" from a person or party who might have a reason to appear before those bodies to request something.
Yet it is perfectly acceptable for US congressmen, who are paid by us, to legally accept unlimited cash from undisclosed PACs that could certainly influence them. Go figure!
