Lenox library board fails library, town

To the editor:

I could not let the releasing of Sharon Hawkes as library director in Lenox pass without comment.

The key to Ms. Hawkes' five years as director can be summed up in two words: She fit. Boy, were we lucky to have her. Sadly, the town will probably lose a few of its most generous benefactors now that we have lost our good friend Sharon.

At this point, it would be prudent to ask our entire library board to resign and replace it with 15 Lenox residents. It is our Lenox Library. It is no place for out-of-town members. Further, a library is not about fund-raising. Selectmen, please take note.

Frank Newton Lenox
