Letter: Less talk will shorten meetings

To the editor of THE EAGLE:

Pittsfield City Councilor Anthony Simonelli’s observation that many of his constituents are dismayed with the length of some Council meetings is well taken. Those who need to speak on certain issues, as well as the TV audience, may find proceedings which drag on into the night disheartening.

While starting the meetings at an earlier time is certainly an option, perhaps some councilors might take a page from Josh Billings’ playbook. Josh once said, "The best time to hold your tongue is the time you feel you must say something or bust!" Less verbiage and less grandstanding would surely cut the length of these meetings by one half.
