Letter: More Jiminy projects means lifting caps

More Jiminy projects means lifting caps

To the editor:

I was pleased to read your Oct. 28 article about the new solar installation on Jiminy Peak. This project represents the next step in keeping Massachusetts a clean energy leader.

As your article mentions, solar reduces the cost of electricity because it produces power right at the source, eliminating the need for costly distribution over long distances. In addition, solar benefits the economy, adding 12,000 jobs in Massachusetts in 2014 at a rate 20 times faster than elsewhere in the general economy.

Unfortunately, caps on net metering are stalling solar developments like Jiminy Peak. The Legislature is considering relieving the caps, but may not vote on the issue before the recess. I urge the House to allow solar development to continue to bring prosperity to the state.

Kate Gehling Cambridge, Ma.
