Letter: Move on from Searles and build new hotel

Move on from Searles and build new hotel

To the editor:

The Great Barrington Selectmen should do the right thing and give the Mahidas the special permit for the Searles hotel, otherwise the former school will join the growing list of empty buildings and storefronts in Great Barrington.

It will bring much-needed tax revenue to the town. People should not be concerned with traffic as this isn't a retail outlet where you would have hundreds of cars in and out all day. When the Berkshire Co-op wanted to move to the New England Log Homes site no one seemed to be concerned about traffic. The people who are contributing time and money to the Save Searles campaign should instead be giving that money to the BHRSD to help pay for renovating Monument Mountain High School.

I would be curious to know what percent of the people against the Searles hotel proposal grew up in Great Barrington and went to Searles High School.

Bill and Carol Arienti, Great Barrington
