Letter: No peace process unless Palestinians want peace
No peace process unless Palestinians want peace
To the editor:
In the Oct. 11 Eagle article "Rocker turns political," Roger Waters' comments imply that Israel is holding up the peace process in the Middle East by not giving more land to the Palestinians. When Israel gave Gaza to the Palestinians, its leaders from Hamas took United Nations money earmarked for hospitals, schools and other peaceful purposes and used it to build tunnels and buy rocket launchers to murder Israeli citizens.
The fact is that a two-state solution has been available to the Arab world for 68 years. Now, four wars later, there is still no acceptance of Israel's right to exist by Palestinian leaders.
Until Palestinians opt for peace and accept the existence of Israel, there can be only a one-state solution.
