Letter: Non-opioid program a model for North County
Non-opioid program a model for No. County
To the editor:
Thank you and Derek Gentile for the excellent article on Volunteers In Medicine's non-opioid pain management program (Sunday, March 13) and our coordinated effort to develop a pilot program that will demonstrate its efficacy and provide a model that can be duplicated across Berkshire County and the commonwealth. We are encouraged and hopeful that other health care providers, and especially health insurers, will find ways to make these services available and affordable to all.
For clarification, I would like to point out that while the article refers to extending the service to North County, our location in Great Barrington makes this largely impractical. Although our doors are and always have been open to North County residents, the long distances involved will likely confine the bulk of our patients to South County and the Pittsfield area. It is our hope that others will adopt our model and extend these vital services to a broader population.
